EAP – Tiedemann Field

Emergency Action Plan for Tiedemann Field

Emergency Personnel: The certified athletic trainer (ATC) is on-site for most contests and on-site for all practices and contests. The head coach is on-site for all practices and contests.

Emergency Communication: Head coaches or their assistant must carry personal cellular telephones that can also be used in an event of an emergency. In the event that neither head coach or assistant coach carry a cellular telephone it is the head or assistant coach’s responsibility to check with team personnel and secure cellular telephone access for all practices and games. The nearest land line telephone can be found at the Zahner household (748-0846) located just before the turn that takes you up to the parking lot in front of Tiedemann Field.

Emergency Equipment: First aid supplies (team medical kits, body substance isolation (BSI) kit, vacuum splints, AED, and crutches). Teams carry their own medical kit to and from games and practices (coaches’ option). AED, crutches, and vacuum splints are carried by the ATC only.

Roles of Emergency Care Team Members:

  1. Immediate care of the injured/ill student-athlete: Follow appropriate first aid principles (See Injury /Illness Emergency Protocol sheet included with this Emergency Action Plan)
  2. Emergency equipment retrieval: Appropriate to the emergency.
  3. Activation of emergency medical system (EMS) by dialing 911. Provide them with the following information:

a.        Identify yourself and your role in the emergency

b.       Specify your location and telephone number

c.        Give name(s) of injured/ill individual(s)

d.       Condition of victim(s)

e.        Time of the incident

f.        Care being provided

g.       Give specific directions to the scene of the emergency (91 Miry Brook Road)

Direction of EMS to the scene:

h.       Assist in directing EMS to the scene

i.         Designate individual to “flag down” EMS and direct to the scene

j.         Scene control: keep non-emergency medical team members away from the scene

Venue Directions: Tiedemann Field is located at the top of the hill behind Wooster School. Follow the drive into campus passing the Forever Young Gym and Alumni/ae Gymnasiums; stay straight up the hill instead of veering right, follow road all the way to the top taking your only right at the end of this road. Go through the parking lot to Tiedemann Field.

Storm Safety Location: In the event of lightening or severe storm warning, move all individuals to John Zahner’s garage.
